In 1887 the castle became the seat of the heir to the throne, Franz Ferdinand, who was assassinated together with his Czech wife Sophia Chotek in 1914 in Sarajevo causing WWI to set off here. Franz Ferdinand converted the castle into an opulent residence filled with rich furniture, works of art and lavish decorations. The castle is decorated with 3,000 trophies hunted by F. Ferdinand, just 1% of the trophies hunted by him within his short life.

The Castle was built around the middle of the 13th century and later purchased by the Schwarzenberk family, it was rebuilt several times. The latest modification in the style of the so-called Windsor Gothic carried out between 1839 and 1871. Representative interiors contain rare collections of Flemish tapestries, weapons, furniture and paintings. Inside visit with local guide.

The town was built around the 13th. century and has remained intact for five centuries.
