| First stop today was in Trier, Germany, one of
the countries oldest towns. We started a walking tour of the Old Town
District at Porta Nigra, a large Roman Gate to the old wailed city, which
is considered one of the finest Roman relics in Northern Europe. We
visited another old, large church and then went to the Central Plaza where
local vendors setup each morning to sell fruit, vegetables, flowers and
other items. Deara and I got lost when the rest of the group got
ahead of us while we went into the first store we had seen with a "Ty"
sign in the window. We frantically searched for our group and/or the bus
for a half hour, almost running the whole time through a maze of streets
and passageways. We finally went back to the starting point because there
was a tourist center there where we could have called Globus to find out
how to catch up with our tour group. The bus had come back to that point
thinking we would do the same. WE GOT FOUND. |

Our next stop was to be a boat ride on the Rhine
River. While driving along the Rhine River, we saw lots of castles
and castle ruins on the hilltops on both sides of the river. We had lunch
at a little town right on the banks of the river. Our afternoon stop was
Heidelberg, another town along the Rhine River with a large red stoned
castle above. The castle had a big library and was the site of one of the
first Universities in Europe. There was a 49,000 gal. 18th century wine
vat with a dance floor on top. We had a local guide take us on a narrated
tour of the castle and had group picture taken by a professional. We spent
the night at a small town nearby, Reilingen. |
