| Early this morning the bus stopped near the Munich
Olympic Village to pickup a German woman to be our guide all morning while we toured Munich. The bus
drove around the Olympic site and a lot of the City of Munich, Germany. We made our morning pee stop at
Nymphenburg Palace, the royal summer residence where "Mad King Ludwig", the Crown Prince of
Bavaria, spent time as a child. We went to "Old Pinakothek", an Art Museum where we saw paintings
by famous artists like Rubens and Da Vinci. We ate lunch in Marienplatz, the center of Munich since the
founding of the city by Henry the Lion in 1158. We saw the famous carillon (Glockenspiel), a huge clock
with 32 almost lifesized figures presenting scenes of the city's history when it chimes.
In the afternoon we went to Prien, Germany, a small town on Chiemsee Lake. We caught a boat and rode
out to an island in the lake, where we had a guided tour through Herrenchiemsee. This was the third
castle built by "Mad King Ludwig". It was modeled after the Palace of Versailles
in France, but was never completed. There was a museum inside the palace of
things that came from all three of Ludwig's castles. We rode a horse drawn carriage back to the boat. |

We drove back into Munich and had dinner at the Lowenbrau Beir Garten during
Octoberfest. After dinner we walked to the Hofbauhaus for a drink and to watch the end of their
"Om Pah Pah" show. The hotel we stayed at tonight and last night was way
north of Munich, even though where we went today and tomorrow was way south of Munich. This was
because of a Passion Play that takes place in this area every 10 years, making rooms very scarce. |
