Enjoy the best of Scotland from the "Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond" and the elegant capital city of Edinburgh to spectacular Highland scenery. Day 1 (Sun.) Board your overnight transatlantic flight. Day 2 Arrival in Glasgow, Scotland. To Loch Lomond. (Mon.) A short drive brings you to your deluxe hotel on the shores of Loch Lomond with the rest of the day free to enjoy this exhilarating location. Join your tour director and traveling companions at 6.30 p.m. for a welcome reception and private dinner party. (D) Day 3 Loch Lomond at Leisure. (Tue.) A full day to relax, enjoy the hotel’s extensive facilities and explore the glorious surroundings. At the nearby newly opened LOCH LOMOND SHORES attraction, the "Beneath the Loch" show introduces you to the area, and the thrilling film "The Legend of the Loch" shown on the Imax-style giant screen brings Scottish history to life. From the 100 foot high observation terrace you’ll get the best views of Loch Lomond and the Highlands beyond. You might wish to take a cruise, enjoy a light lunch, and browse the quality shops before returning to your hotel in the early afternoon. Later today, perhaps join your tour director for an optional outing to Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city, for a narrated orientation drive and visit to the Burrell Collection, and afterwards dinner at a fine city center restaurant. (FB) Day 4 Loch Lomond. West Highlands Excursion. (Wed.) A full-day excursion to experience the dramatic scenery of the West Highlands. Cross the mountain pass aptly named "Rest and be thankful" to Inveraray on Loch Fyne where a special highlight is a guided tour of elegant INVERARAY CASTLE, ancestral home of the Dukes of Argyll, Clan Chiefs of the Campbells. Take a lunch break in the pretty fishing port of Oban, gateway to the Isles; then follow the shores of Loch Linnhe and head up the mysterious valley known as Glen Coe, where the McDonald Clan was treacherously murdered by the Campbells in 1692. Cross bleak Rannoch Moor and trace the shores of the entire length of Loch Lomond back to your hotel. Dinner is not included tonight so you can choose from Cameron House’s fine dining options. (FB) Day 5 Loch Lomond—Edinburgh. (Thu.) More breathtaking scenery today on the route through the heart of the Highlands that takes you via Stirling of Braveheart fame and skirts the scenic Trossachs region with a pause at Callander. At Aberfeldy, the picturesque setting of DEWAR’S WORLD OF WHISKY, your distillery visit includes a guided tour and explanation of the ancient art of converting barley, water and yeast into a heart-warming liquor, and of course a "wee dram" tasting is also included! Next a lunch stop at the nearby Victorian mountain resort of Pitlochry before turning south towards Perth and Scotland’s capital city. Dinner is included tonight at your Edinburgh city center hotel. (FB,D) Day 6 Edinburgh. (Fri.) Morning city sightseeing with a local expert introduces you to the 200-year-old "New Town" and famous scientists, inventors and novelists. In the "Old Town," drive up the narrow Royal Mile to EDINBURGH CASTLE to admire Scotland’s Crown Jewels, then explore HOLYROOD PALACE, the Queen’s official Scottish residence. Later today, maybe join your tour director for a unique optional experience: board the splendid former Royal Yacht Britannia for a tour of the Royal Apartments before continuing on for dinner. (FB) Day 7 At Leisure in Edinburgh. (Sat.) This morning choose whether to explore the city further or motor into neighboring Fyfe for a visit to the university town of St. Andrews, whose Royal and Ancient Golf Club, founded in 1754, has given us the rules of golfing. Tonight, a fitting finale: join our optional Scottish evening with Highland dancers, bagpipers and the Ceremony of the Haggis. (FB) Day 8 (Sun.) Your homebound flight arrives the same day.
